Ming Construction Project Wins SIA Merit Award

Posted on06/10/2025

Ming Construction is proud to announce that our restoration of the historic shophouse at 75 Maude Road has been awarded a MERIT AWARD by the Singapore Institute of Architects (SIA).

This 3-storey Art Deco shophouse is not only architecturally striking but also historically significant. During World War II, it served as a refuge for Mr. Lee Kuan Yew, Singapore’s founding Prime Minister, in a dramatic escape from the Japanese occupation.

Our team worked meticulously to conserve the building’s original features — from handcrafted timber fretwork panels to preserved breeze blocks and flooring — while carefully balancing heritage conservation with modern usability.

The project was also recently featured in The Business Times, which showcased the detailed conservation efforts and the importance of preserving the patina of history.
